Roman Museum

The Roman Museum is like all municipal museums in that it is situated in a historic building well worth seeing: the former Dominican church St. Magdalena. The high hall church with twin aisles, a straight enclosure and seven columns in the middle had been abandoned since 1806. First built in the late gothic style, it was transformed into baroque in the beginning of the 18th century. The "Vier Gulden Stein" were inserted above on the north and south walls of the nave in 1520. These stones, which memorialize Emperor Maximilian I, his son Philip of Spain and his grandsons Emperor Charles V and Archduke Ferdinand, are some of the earliest Renaissance artifacts in Augsburg...
